Following the announcement of Project Stargate with a $500 billion investment, Meta decided to allocate significant funds as well.
Meta announced a planned expenditure of $65 billion, which is less than Microsoft’s commitment of $80 billion but surpasses AWS’s expected $75 billion. As for Google, their spending plans remain undisclosed.
For those with substantial financial resources, AI data centers become a likely investment target. Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle would unite efforts to develop Project Stargate, an AI infrastructure initiative valued at $500 billion over four years throughout the U.S. OpenAI promises that $100 billion of this will be available immediately.
Amidst this, Elon Musk, who is quite familiar with AI data center construction, expressed skepticism regarding Project Stargate’s financial capacity, stating that SoftBank hasn’t even secured $10 billion.
Concurrently, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans on Facebook for a wide-scale data center project exceeding 2GW, intended to cover much of Manhattan, along with other ambitious AI developments.
According to Zuckerberg’s vision, 2025 will mark a pivotal moment for AI. Meta AI is projected to become a leading assistant, serving over a billion users. The innovative Llama 4 model is expected to emerge as a benchmark in the field, and an AI engineer will begin contributing more to Meta’s research and development. To support this, Meta plans to construct a massive data center, launching approximately 1GW of computing power by 2025 and ending the year with over 1.3 million GPUs. The capital expenditure for the year is set between $60 billion and $65 billion, signaling an organizational expansion in AI teams and capabilities.
Though the $65 billion expense is less than Microsoft’s and AWS’s planned investments, it surpasses most expectations. This marks a notable increase from Meta’s last year expenditure, estimated between $38 billion and $40 billion, and exceeds analyst forecasts for 2025, previously set at $50.25 billion.
